Source: www.siliconvalleyyouthbridge.org November NewsletterOn Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. a very special movie will be shown at the Shoreline Theatre in Mountain View. “Double Dummy”, the first film by producer John McAllister, a long-time bridge enthusiast, offers an extraordinary look at the competitive world of youth bridge and the relationships forged by the game around the world. According to the filmmaker, “One of the reasons for making the film was to show young people just how far one can go with the game. I did not know that there was such a thing as the World Youth Team Championship when I was younger and I wanted to let young people know about it so that they could potentially participate…I want young people to know that this game runs deep. That there is a whole bridge world out there waiting to be enjoyed.” Michael Hu, SiVY player and one of the organizers of the screening event had this to say, “Before watching the film, I heard of all the juniors’ names, and I looked up to them as role models. The film really made me feel connected to their lives. I have a supportive family, and I started to play competitive bridge early just like them…I think the film will make connections and be an eye-opener for many other kids.” Through the lens of the 14th World Youth Teams Championships, the most prestigious event in junior bridge, Double Dummy shows that bridge is still a game for people of all ages. During the course of the 10 day tournament, the film follows the USA1 Under 21 team in pursuit of the Damiani Cup. The seven member team consists of three partnerships and one non-playing captain. Visits to the homes and hometowns of five of the team members help contextualize the importance of bridge in each of their lives. Vignettes and interviews with other bridge players help to present a full picture of the state of the game today. Please help us ensure the screening is a success by purchasing tickets ($12 per person) in advance. A portion of proceeds will benefit Silicon Valley Youth Bridge. Event Info:
