Bridge for Youth announces its 2021 Summer Online Youth Bridge Camp for students grades 5-12. The expanded agenda includes:
Introduction to Bridge. July 19th to July 23rd
This 1-week camp taught by Coach David Dailey is a hands on introduction for new players, providing a broad overview and introduction to all aspects of bridge to include, bidding, play of the hand and defense.
Bridge Boot Camp Week 1: Play of the Hand. July 26th to July 30th
This Boot Camp, taught by Coach Al Bender, is for serious beginners or players who wants a refresher of bridge basics. The Boot Camp is a accelerated version of our 20 week semester course. Week 1 is “play of the hand”. Week 2 (separate registration) covers “bidding and defense”. At the completion of the two-week Boot Camp students will have the skills to participate in youth tournaments.
Bridge Boot Camp Week 2: Bidding and Defense. Aug. 2nd to Aug. 6th
This Boot Camp, taught by Coach Al Bender, is for serious beginners or players who wants a refresher of bridge basics. The Boot Camp is a accelerated version of our 20 week semester course. Week 2 covers “bidding and defense”. Completion of week 1 or permission is a prerequisite to attend the week 2 Boot Camp. At the completion the two week Boot Camp students will have the skills to participate in youth tournaments.
Intermediate/Advanced Workshops. Aug. 2nd to Aug. 6th
The intermediate/advanced workshop is for students that already know how to play bridge and would like to take their game to the next level. The perfect camp or our Basic Bridge class graduates. Come explore the beauty of finesses, the annoyance of preempts (and how to handle them), and the glories of the well-bid and played skinny slam. The advanced workshop is taught by Bridge Teacher and Professional Bridge player Tom Carmichael and the intermediate workshop is taught by Christina Van Leeuwen and Scott Chupack.
All classes are delivered online through Zoom, Shark Bridge and Bridge Base Online. Class will be from 10:00am-Noon and 1:00pm-3:00 pm PDT. Campers and their parents (or other relatives) are invited to play in our end-of-camp tournament on August 7 at 10:00am. All camp attendees are invited to participate in our weekly online classes and quarterly youth tournaments through grade 12 which are provided at no additional charge.
