Youth Bridge Fun Day Event: Sunday 19 January
The Queensland Bridge Association recently organised a Youth Bridge Fun Day for the Christmas holidays hosted at the Queensland Contract Bridge Club.
Youths attending ranged in age from below ten to the mid-twenties. Some were new to bridge (or indeed, new to playing any card games), some had played a little bridge and some were experienced players keen to meet up with friends and welcome others to the sport.
Grandparents and parents joined in the fun by supervising some of the play and assisting with the task of feeding the youths. Pizzas, chips, and lollies were consumed with great enthusiasm, and even the healthy food was eaten up!
The support and promotion of the event provided by the host club was fabulous and much appreciated.
Plans are already underway for a further Youth Bridge Fun Day to be hosted at the Toowong Bridge Club on Sunday 19 January. These events are always free to attend, with lunch provided.
Queensland youth players are also encouraged and invited to attend the free Youth Bridge Sessions held every Friday night at the QCBC from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Also on the youth bridge scene is the upcoming Gold Coast Congress. The Congress is the biggest bridge competition in Australia – a smorgasbord of events over 9 days (Friday 21 February to Saturday 29 February 2020) to suit players of all ages and standards. All players born in 2000 or later get free entry, with players born between 1995 and 1999 get a 50% discount. Heavily subsidised accommodation is available for youths playing at the Congress.
