Don’t forget – you can still enter for the 6th World Youth Open Bridge Championships being held in Croatia from 20 – 29 August. We were at the junior camp and got to talk to the oldest and youngest participant in the junior NM.
Markus Hansen Moe
Markus Hansen Moe
We meet Markus Hansen Moe. He was has just switching tables and answered YES to the question if it was okay that I sit down and have a super-short interview with him. Mark confirms that it is OK and I can state that he is 7 years. To the question that all athletes (bridge is probably one mental-sport) gets: “how are you?” he answers “BRA” as he looks at the cards, counts honor points as if no one had sat next to him and asked questions. Markus is comfortable with both Bridge and the interview at the same time. He is from Sandnessjøen and is a member of the Rana Junior Bridge Club.
Olav Bjørkan
Olav Bjørkan
Markus thinks Bridge is fun, the holidays in Sweden were fun but it was a bit boring to drive a long way. Curious, we ask what he will do when the junior event is over. He tell us that he should go to Drammen, of course, because he must play junior NM with Olav Bjørkan as his partner. The interview with Markus ends, meanwhile, his partner opened 1NT and the opponents pondered a little half-heartedly whether if they had actually agreed to any defense against that message. We thanked Markus for the interview and wish him luck in the NM. Markus was the youngest participant in this group.
Morten Angell
Morten Angell
At another table we found Morten Angell from Bergen Akademiske BK. He’s a senior here – and this is the last year he’ll be at the junior camp because of his age. As he plays, we sneak in and ask what it’s like to be here the last time? He smiles smartly and tell us that he might be coming next year too – because he has already signed up as a volunteer.   Don’t forget – you can still enter for the 6th World Youth Open Bridge Championships being held in Croatia from 20 – 29 August.
