Source: Australian National Championships Bulletin Australia Victorian Youth BridgeYouth bridge in Victoria is a small pool, with only five or six keen bridgies attending the VBA-sponsored Youth Bridge Night. This is held every Tuesday night, and bridge superstar Jamie Thompson is the mentor, coach and teacher on these nights, sometimes with the help of Maxim Henbest, another Victorian youth bridge superstar. With such a wealth of younger players in the Victorian bridge community, it is hoped that the small pool can be grown in time. The team is sharing an AirBNB apartment, and Danni Fuller was shocked to find that only Conor Hosking was able to do more than boil water! Danni is of course part of Team Fuller, a family at the forefront of bridge in WA, although Danni had no interest in bridge until she moved to Victoria. Clan Fuller includes parents Trevor and Leone and sister Kirstyn, older by three and a half years, and part of the 2019 WA Women’s Team. Danni had a year in Japan, where she learned Japanese. With one degree in anatomy and physiology under her belt as well, she is now studying to be a paramedic, and working in a non-emergency ambulance. The team age range is from 10 to 23, with Taydon still at school. John Mai and Damon flicker have a profound interest in mathematics, with whizz kid John involved in actuarial studies. Jamie is at present fully involved with bridge, teaching, supervising and playing, but hopes to become a teacher in due course. Jamie, too, is from a prominent bridge family, which includes father David, uncle Ben and aunt Jenny. Conor learnt bridge a few years ago and has represented Australia on the under-16 team. After taking a break from bridge to focus on school he came back to it earlier this year. He is in his first year of a science degree. Rebecca (Bec) is originally from Perth but moved to Melbourne early last year for a change of scenery. Having represented WA at the ANC the last few years, she is one of the most experienced players on the team.
