Source: Roland Wald Poetry in motion … is not a term you hear every day at the bridge table. This is perhaps the finest auction ever seen in a major tournament. We are in the French city of Lyon at the European Open Team Championships in the summer of 2017 and our heroes are David Gold and Andrew Robson from England. Robson rejected the 5-4 fit in spades and suggested a 4-3 at the 7-level, the only making grand slam. Yes, the auction took 12 minutes, including 3 minutes for the 7Diamond Suitbid and 5 minutes for David Gold’s final pass, but the play was quick. A heart ruff in dummy provided the 13th trick. Some of you have probably seen it before, but it’s worth seeing again, isn’t it? What a beautiful game we share!
