Team Blass wins Spingold
Congratulations to Team Blass with Jacek Pszczola (Pepsi), Jacek Kalita, Michal Nowosadzki, Sjoert Brink and Bas Drijver on winning the Spingold Knockout Teams at the Summer NABC in Las Vegas. In the 60-board final they defeated Team Zimmermann (Pierre Zimmermann, Franck Multon, Michał Klukowski, Piotr Gawrys, Tor Helness and Krzysztof Martens) by 57 IMPs. The match was close (4 IMPs) at half-time, but Blass had a good third quarter. Three major swings in the last set (36-16) resulted in a comprehensive win for the Polish-Dutch combination. A slam swing in the Zimmermann direction on the very last board was cosmetic. The Dutch pair and Kalita played throughout, more than 400 boards in total. By the look of it, Zimmermann made a wise decision when he recently hired Brink and Drijver to play for his team in future major international events.
