August 25th
‘The future doesn’t belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave.’
Said former president Ronald Reagan on January 28 of 1986 after the disaster with space shuttle Challenger.
And: ‘It’s all part of the process of exploration and discovery’
Or: ‘It’s all part of taking a chance and expanding man’s horizons.’
Even: ‘That’s the way freedom is, and we wouldn’t change it for a minute.’
Meaning: these quotes indicate pretty well what we had in mind with:
‘The future doesn’t belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave.’
And that’s all there is to say about it. Enjoy!
Today France is playing the BB final against USA2. Today is the final’s second day, so they are playing round 4-5 & 6. In one of the tables Rombaut-Combescure are playing against Pepsi & Rosenberg.
BB FR 6/8 Board 18
West opened 1, and North doubled. After East’s pass, South showed his hearts. West insisted with his diamond suit, and North doubled again. South repeated his hearts, as a stop signal. West competed with his diamonds again, and North showed extra-extra strength with another double.
Now South decided to show his second suit, clubs. And Rombaut closed his eyes and declare the club slam. These were the comments at the table:
bobholl→: ah ha fit coming to ligth
odysseus69→: might shut his eyes and bid the slam
odysseus69→: He did as I typed
Lead: J
Combescour, won the lead with dummy’s A, cashed A and A and continued with the 8, as he needed both honors: K & J met at the table.
Pepsi left his hand playing the K, declarer ruffed in dummy, entered dummy playing a small club and back came a small spade. TheK was covered with the ace. Declarer continued cashing the Q, and after West’s diamond pitch he claimed 12 tricks.
At the other table, Quantin in East opened 2= Non Vulnerable 4+ 4+ and the USA pair only arrived to 3 they made 11 tricks that cost them 15 IMPs.
Watch the whole bidding and Rombau bidding the slam.
