APBF Youth Teams Championships 2019: Happy Birthday, Liu Yizhou
There was another spectacular play coming from one of our best Kids team in the 23rd APBF Youth Teams Championships, SX Venus. This board was one of the huge source of IMPs for SX Venus to fiercely defeat their opponent, 20.00-0.00 VPs in the first round of yesterday morning, i.e. Kids Swiss 10.

Liu Yizhou/Yao Tianle adopted the two way check back convention and easily reached 4] there. North led the five of spades to the ace at the dummy and declarer played a low heart to the king. North won the ace, returning a low diamond which declarer put the ace. Now, a club to the jack, saw North winning the king and playing another spade to be ruffed in hand. Next, declarer drew one round of trump with the queen. So far, declarer had lost two hearts (the ace and jack) and K, so Liu Yizhou could not afford to lose another diamond and he believed that finesse should be the last option, guess what he did the next?
After imagining what kind of hand that South could have, declarer managed to carefully lead a club to the queen, ruffed a spade in hand, and cashed the ace of clubs. They were now reaching this position.
When Liu Yizhou put the3 on the table, North discarded a spade, dummy a diamond, and South was now in trouble.
If South,
1. Discards the2. Declarer will continue with heart, and South is forced to play the diamond to theKJ.
2. Ruffs with J. South will either exit with a spade to give a ruff and discard, or diamond to the KJ. 3. Discards a low diamond. Declarer will simply cash the king of diamonds.
This board was well played by Liu Yizhou whose birthday is today, April 9th. Happy Birthday!
